This longleaf pine wood, salvaged from the USS Texas, carries the legacy of one of the most storied battleships in U.S. naval history. Commissioned in 1914, the USS Texas (BB-35) was the first American battleship to become a permanent museum and remains the last surviving dreadnought of her kind. She saw action in both World Wars, providing naval gunfire support during the D-Day landings at Normandy and the invasions of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. The longleaf pine wood used in this ring was installed during her final dry dock in 1990, the same type used throughout her service years.
